CARIS Onboard Trial with TerraSond

Mike Redmayne, Teledyne CARIS Account Manager, recently visited onsite with TerraSond in Lafayette, LA, to conduct a CARIS Onboard™ trial and evaluate the benefits of near-real time processing to enhance survey productivity.

Using an ASV C-Worker 5, the unmanned surface vessel was deployed using a variety of survey sensors; including a Teledyne Reson 7101 multibeam, Applanix POS MV positioning/motion system, and Edgetech sidescan. Hydrographic data was collected in XTF format using online acquisition software, which was automatically detected and processed in near real-time with CARIS Onboard and minimal human intervention. The configuration used to connect with the survey payload was done via PC and Virtual Desktop (VNC), and then operated by remote laptop PC. This type of remote access also enables the CARIS Onboard processing progress to be monitored for quality control and decision support during the survey.

All of the steps of using CARIS Onboard were tested and found to be working as expected on the ASV platform to complete yet another successful trial with an unmanned vehicle, it will be used in production this field season.
