CARIS World Tour - New Zealand and Malaysia

The CARIS World Tour recently held two more stops on its journey around the globe, Wellington, New Zealand and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Held at the James Cook Hotel Grand Chancellor and organized in cooperation with Land Information New Zealand (LINZ), the 3-day workshop in Wellington was well attended by hydrographers, cartographers, marine geologists, and geophysicists alike.

The Kuala Lumpur event was hosted at the Impiana KLCC Hotel and had a great turnout as well. There were over 50 attendees on Day 1, and 25 for the featured workshops on Days 2 and 3.

Both 3-day World Tour workshops provided an opportunity for the marine community to learn about the next generation of CARIS™ software architecture, as well as other technology trends that are reshaping the hydrographic industry. Some of the topics covered with comprehensive demonstrations and detailed exercises included:

  • IHO S-100 Universal Hydrographic Data Model with exercises on the creation of S-102 Bathymetric Surface Products and migration of S-57 ENC data to S-101 ENC with CARIS BASE Editor™ and CARIS S-57 Composer™ respectively
  • Near real-time bathymetric data processing with CARIS Onboard
  • Multibeam backscatter processing with the newest backscatter engine available in CARIS HIPS and SIPS
  • Demonstration and exercises with the new Variable Resolution Surfaces
  • Vertical Feature Modelling and creation of vertical and near-vertical surfaces with CARIS Engineering Analysis Module™ (EAM) in BASE Editor

The CARIS World Tour is a great opportunity to learn about the latest technology offered by Teledyne CARIS™ through a combination of hands-on and detailed demonstrations. The next stops will be:

  • October 18 to 20 - Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
  • November 15 to 17 - Shanghai, China
  • November 15 to 17 – Galway, Ireland
